In 1980, a hunter named Bu Xiaoqiu from the Miao Autonomous County of Rongshui, Guangxi, captured a small creature suspected to be a 'wild man.' This creature stood about a meter tall and had distinct facial features, but Bu believed it to be the reincarnation of a friend and released it back into the wild. Similar incidents occurred in the Cangyuan region of Yunnan, where hunters Li Yingchang and Tian Ruanmeng captured similar animals, which were later identified by experts as gibbons. Gibbons resemble humans and inhabit the subtropical dense forests. Additionally, local folklore is rich with stories of 'wild men' sightings, including encounters by individuals like Wei Limeng and Hu Deren, further adding to the mystery surrounding these elusive beings.
