Within the limits of human physiology, there exists an astonishing phenomenon—some individuals are naturally impervious to cold. These 'fire kids' can maintain normal body functions in extreme low temperatures, even exposing themselves to frigid environments without feeling cold. This phenomenon not only challenges medical knowledge but also prompts profound reflections on human adaptability.

In the 1980s, during a scientific discussion in London, researchers examined the survival times of individuals submerged in water at different temperatures. The findings revealed that a person can endure about 15 minutes in water at zero degrees Celsius, while at five degrees, the time extends to just over a day. This brings to mind the story of the little match girl from Hans Christian Andersen, who lights matches to warm herself and ultimately succumbs to the cold on Christmas Eve.

However, in Trieste, Italy, an eight-year-old boy defied this norm. He attends school daily wearing only a pair of swimming shorts, unfazed by the biting cold winds. Initially, the police suspected he was a victim of abuse, but after questioning, they learned that the child has been immune to cold since childhood. His parents took him to the hospital for examination, but doctors could not explain this phenomenon. Similarly, in the suburbs of Nanjing, China, there is another boy who has never feared the cold, playing outside in the snow without clothes and never catching a cold.

In 1979, a girl known as the 'fire girl' was born in the outskirts of Mianyang, Sichuan. She possesses an extraordinary tolerance for cold. Even in winter, she refuses to wear clothes and sleeps without blankets. Whenever she is dressed, she develops a fever. Additionally, in Anyi County, Jiangxi, there is a girl named Xia Weilian who wears only a single piece of clothing and rubber shoes, even when temperatures drop to minus three degrees. Her father states that she has disliked wearing clothes since birth, crying whenever dressed until she reluctantly wore a single layer at the age of two, after which she never added more clothing.

How these 'fire kids' manage to do this remains an unsolved mystery.
