Charles Welsh is a well-known figure, famous for a ballad titled "The Man Who Bankrupted the Monte Carlo Casino." In fact, Welsh did manage to bankrupt this casino three times. He was not a skilled gambler; in fact, he was quite overweight and lacked any charm. However, after achieving astonishing victories at the gambling tables, he mysteriously vanished.
In his first and second attempts, he won a million francs at each table in 1891, consistently betting on the red and black areas and winning almost every time. During his third attempt, he employed a different strategy: he first placed a bet on the number 5 and won. He then increased his stake and continued betting on number 5, winning again. Remarkably, he won five times in a row, as if the number 5 was always in his favor. Ultimately, the casino went bankrupt, and Charles Welsh quietly left with a substantial fortune.
