Cao Cao, a hero of the Three Kingdoms period, never ascended to the throne during his lifetime but was posthumously honored as Emperor Wu of Wei. The "Records of the Three Kingdoms" praises him as a "remarkable person, a genius beyond his time," while the "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" labels him as a "traitor" and a "villain." According to the novel, Cao Cao requested that 72 false tombs be constructed outside of Zhangdefu's Jiangwu City to prevent his actual tomb from being discovered after his death. However, the "Records of the Three Kingdoms" states that his tomb is located next to the Ximen Bao Shrine in Ye City, known as the Gao Tomb. This creates two conflicting accounts regarding Cao Cao's burial site. Although the story in the "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" is filled with fiction, it may reflect some elements of truth. Today, the areas around Linzhang and Anyang still preserve the ruins of the Ximen Bao Shrine and the suspected false tombs, providing clues to unravel the mystery of Cao Cao's tomb.
