Recently, news from Baba Island in Indonesia's Banda Sea has taken the world by storm: a gigantic monitor lizard, reminiscent of a dinosaur, has been discovered here. This massive lizard is an excellent swimmer and even ventures to inhabited areas to explore on sunny days. What kind of creature is this?
Baba Island is a small island in the Banda Sea of Indonesia. For several years, an Australian scientific expedition team has been conducting paleontological studies on the island. However, in the fall of 1995, they experienced an unusual adventure that nearly cost them their lives.
At that time, the expedition team was searching for remnants of animal fossils. Suddenly, they spotted a strangely shaped "big ship" approaching the island from the distant sea. Upon closer observation, they realized it was an unprecedented green monitor lizard. This lizard stands 4 meters tall and measures 15 meters in length, yet it moves with surprising agility when coming ashore. The sound of it gnawing on large trees was clearly audible, and soon it found a sunny spot to take a nap.
Although the monitor lizard is herbivorous, the scientists dared not approach it and could only take photos from a distance. When the lizard awoke and noticed the humans, it began to advance toward the expedition team. Fortunately, the lizard was unable to climb the hills and gave up the chase after several failed attempts. A few hours later, it returned to the sea, allowing the team to breathe a sigh of relief and quickly return to Australia.
Dr. Augusto believes that Baba Island not only holds ancient animal skeletal fossils but also traces of this giant lizard. No one can determine how old this lizard is; it may have just hatched. How many more of these giant lizards will appear in the future? If their swimming abilities are indeed so remarkable, they could pose a threat to humans.
