The legend of vampire zombies has been widely circulated since ancient times. Whether it’s the desiccated mummies that leave their tombs at night or the bloated, sluggish zombies, they always evoke fear of the unknown. These legends are prevalent across the globe, particularly in Central and Eastern Europe. Among them, the story of Vlad the Impaler, a Romanian prince from the late 15th century, is particularly captivating. Although Vlad himself may not have been the vampire zombie of legend, his brutal actions provided a real foundation for the tales of bloodsucking undead.

Born around 1430, Vlad ruled for less than a decade but committed countless acts of cruelty. He not only killed thousands but also tortured his victims in various extreme ways. These actions not only instilled fear but also sparked interest in the vampire zombie legend. In fact, Vlad's notorious deeds were well-known at the time, with some historians even dubbing him the "Impaler."

Vlad is often depicted as a handsome young prince, yet his cruel actions starkly contrast with his appearance. While some argue that his brutal image was fabricated by political rivals, substantial evidence indicates that Vlad was indeed a ruthless ruler. His tomb is said to be located on an island in a lake in Romania. In the early 20th century, a team excavated the tomb but found it empty, leading to speculation about whether Vlad's body had been taken by a vampire zombie.
