In 1912 Sydney, a surveyor named Charles Hab experienced an incredible encounter in the Karokabilly Mountains. That night, he was startled by a strange sound in the woods, prompting him and his companions to gather around a campfire for warmth. Suddenly, a massive shadow appeared in the firelight, resembling some unknown creature standing before them.
"It looked like a giant beast that resembled a human, standing upright and less than 20 feet away from us," Hab recalled. "Its body was enormous, with reddish-brown fur covering its shoulders and back, making it particularly striking in the firelight. Its head and face were small, but its eyes were large and sharp, with long fangs protruding from its tightly closed lips, sending chills down our spines."
The beast was muscular and robust, with thick fur covering its arms and forepaws. It pounded its chest with human-like hands, emitting a deafening roar. After a few minutes, it suddenly turned and left, first walking upright and then quickly dropping to all fours, disappearing into the darkness.
Hab and his companions were terrified by the experience, but Hab himself felt an exhilarating thrill.
