We all know that roosters crow and hens lay eggs. However, have you ever heard of a rooster laying an egg? Such a peculiar event occurred in Xiawan Tun, Gai Li Village, Gaoling Township, in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of China.

On May 8, 1985, a large rooster belonging to villager Huang Naizhu suddenly settled quietly in a hen's nest. When Huang's wife discovered it, she caught it and drove it away. The next day, the rooster returned to the hen's nest, raising Huang's suspicions. Upon closer inspection, he found a round hard object on the rooster's rear. Huang took the rooster to the village clinic, where the doctor examined it and diagnosed the object as an egg, which was subsequently removed with a surgical knife. The egg weighed 51.2 grams and resembled a duck egg; when illuminated with a flashlight, a layer of black floating liquid was visible within the yolk.

On the first day after the surgery, the rooster could still crow normally, but by the second and third days, it had stopped crowing, although its eating habits and overall condition remained normal.
