According to research by zoologists, pigs are remarkably intelligent animals, with an IQ that can surpass that of dogs. In the United States, there is a swimming pig that once rescued a young boy from a lake, an act of bravery that earned the pig a certificate of recognition.
This pig, named Miss Bella, is a pet of a family in Texas and has loved playing in water since childhood, even learning to swim in their backyard pool.
One day, Bella's owner, Carol, took her 11-year-old son Anthony, who has a cognitive disability, to play by a lake. Since Anthony did not know how to swim, Carol allowed him to play at the edge while she and Bella swam out to the middle of the lake. Suddenly, a panicked scream echoed from behind; Anthony had unknowingly entered the water and had floated into a deep hole, struggling desperately.
Although Carol was frantic, she was too far away to help. At that moment, Miss Bella seemed to sense the danger her young owner was in. She quickly swam to Anthony's side, extended the leash attached to her harness towards him, and pulled him back to safety in the shallow water. Bella's courageous act earned her the Steven Award that year, making her the first pig to be inducted into the Texas Pet Hall of Fame.
