In Jianyang, Sichuan Province, there is a unique sight: a wild heron often perches on the roof of a human-powered tricycle. This scene tells a story of harmony between humans and nature.
In the spring of 2002, tricycle driver Liu Shaoguo rescued an injured heron from the streets of Jianyang, naming it "Xiao Bai." Initially wary of Liu, Xiao Bai gradually adapted to its new life and developed a deep bond with him. Every morning, Liu would bring fresh fish and shrimp to accompany Xiao Bai through each dawn. Not only did Xiao Bai become Liu's companion, but it also took on the role of his guardian. Whenever Liu returned home tired, Xiao Bai would gently nuzzle his neck with its long beak, expressing gratitude. Xiao Bai has also played the role of a watchdog in Liu's home, alerting him whenever strangers approached.
Xiao Bai's presence has not only filled Liu's life with joy but has also amazed the neighbors and passersby. They gather around to listen to the stories of Liu and Xiao Bai, even willing to ride Liu's tricycle to enjoy the experience of traveling alongside the heron.
